This commercial promoting Iceland and its various travel destinations is one of the most creative and hilarious ads I’ve seen. What makes it even more impressive, is that it was pitched and created within a couple of days.
After Facebook released its rebranding video with Mark Zuckerberg explaining the endless possibilities in the Metaverse, Visit Iceland created a parody video.
Using an actor who resembles Zuckerberg, he speaks in the same mannerisms and uses a lot of the same phrases from the Facebook announcement.
This was a funny way to create an attention-grabbing commercial since viewers can undeniably connect what the commercial is referencing. It was pulled off so well that Zuckerberg publicly complimented the ad.
What I like about the commercial is that it promotes seeing Iceland yourself, not through a VR headset.
While Zuckerberg offers the Metaverse’s potential for traveling from your living room through VR, Visit Iceland reminds viewers that you can see it for yourself in person.
Personally, Iceland has moved up on my bucket list after the ad highlighted all of the great things Iceland has to offer.
I hope other brands consider doing parodies of relevant news to promote their own message. It stands out from a creativity standpoint but also will have a stronger recall from viewers in the future.
