Allie’s TV Show Recommendations

Unfortunately, I got covid right before the holidays. But on the bright side, quarantine gave me time to make a list of my favorite shows I’ve watched that I enjoyed!

Here are the shows that I always recommend to others, so if you decide to watch any of these, please let me know what you think!

Mystery Recommendations:

How to Get Away with Murder on Netflix

My sleep was lacking when I watched this show because I couldn't turn it off. Each season has a different mystery that continuously keeps you questioning everything.

Big Little Lies on HBOMax

Such a good mystery that I couldn't stop watching. Each character has an interesting backstory and the music is fantastic.

Defending Jacob on Apple TV

What would you do if your child was accused of murdering another kid? You never know what to believe when watching this series. Very interesting!

The Undoing on HBOMax

Also finished this in a day! This murder mystery sucks you in immediately.

Cruel Summer on Hulu

Told over three summers in the 90's, viewers learn the truth about a girl who has gone missing. The timeline of this show makes this show very unique!

Comedy/Mystery Recommendations:

The Flight Attendant on HBOMax

SO funny and a great mystery!

Only Murders in the Building on Hulu

This show is AMAZING. The dynamic between Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez is hilarious and exceeded my expectations!

Desperate Housewives on Hulu

A little older but great mysteries with hilarious plotlines! It's a commitment but it's worth it.

Action-Adventure/Sci-fi Recommendations:

WandaVision on Disney+

If you like Marvel, this is a MUST. Has an interesting plot and the change between each decade is fantastic!

Loki on Disney+

Again, this is a must for Marvel fans. I was on the edge of my seat throughout the whole series.

Game of Thrones on HBOMax

A basic recommendation but there's a reason it was so popular. Great action and drama! Personally, the final season didn't ruin the show for me because the other seasons were so good.

Stranger Things on Netflix

The show has such range, making me laugh one minute and hide under a blanket the next. A great show for sci-fi lovers!

Drama Recommendations:

The Handmaid’s Tale on Hulu

Amazing show and book series! Dystopian societies are always interesting to me. Very dark show but has an interesting plot.

Little Fires Everywhere on Hulu

Literally finished this in a day. Great performances from all of the main characters.

The Morning Show on Apple TV

This was a show I just recently finished and absolutely loved. It gives viewers a look at the impact of the #MeToo movement along with interesting drama revolving around broadcast journalism.

Euphoria on HBOMax

This might be the most aesthetically pleasing show I've seen. The acting is great and the plot is super interesting. Highly recommend listening to the album from the show too because the music is SO GOOD.

Comedy Recommendations:

Community on Netflix & Hulu

This was my comfort show during 2020 and will continue to be so. The chaotic storylines in every episode are entertaining, but the conflicts are always resolved in an uplifting way at the end of each episode. Also, Troy and Abed are legendary.

Atlanta on Hulu

Not only is this an amazing show in general, but it showcases Atlanta so well! The random adventures throughout this show are very creative and sometimes weird, but weird is good. Highly recommend!

Ted Lasso on Apple TV

Ted is one of the most wholesome characters I have seen on television. It’s such a witty, humorous show that brings me so much joy!

Schitt's Creek on Netflix

The character development throughout this show is immaculate. You will grow to love the Rose family! This show makes me DIE laughing every time.

The Good Place on Netflix

The plot twist in this show is *chefs kiss*. Such a funny concept for a show!

New Girl on Netflix

This is another comfort show for me. The dynamic between the main characters is hilarious! Seriously, such a cute and amusing show.

Parks and Recreation on Peacock

A very wholesome and amusing show! I couldn't pick a favorite character if I tried because they're all so unique and funny. It's a feel-good show too!

Brooklyn Nine-Nine on Peacock

I can't believe I haven't seen this show until recently. Very funny!

The Office on Peacock

An extremely basic recommendation but I had to include it.

Friends on HBOMax

Another extremely basic recommendation that I had to include.

Horror Recommendations:

The Haunting of Hill House on Netflix

The plot twists in this show are AMAZING. I mean it, jaw-dropping! Pretty scary but the plot is so interesting I would recommend it to non-horror fans. (Fun Fact: Ghosts are hidden throughout the show if you look for them!)

The Haunting of Bly Manor on Netflix

Very creepy series but super good! It is in "The Haunting of" family that hopefully continues to grow. The actors in both shows are impeccable.

Midnight Mass on Netflix

Also directed by the same person who did "The Haunting of" shows. I'll warn you, it's pretty weird and crushes your soul at points, but I enjoyed it! Very interesting.

Castle Rock on Hulu

If you're a Stephen King fan, this is for you! This show takes place in King's universe with settings and characters from his different books.

American Horror Story on Hulu & Netflix

I recommend watching Murder House (season 1), Asylum (2), Coven (3 - my favorite), Hotel (5), and Apocolypse (8). Each season is a different story so you can watch them out of order (except for season 8! Make sure you watch 1, 3, and 5 before you watch that).

Docuseries Recommendations:

How to Fix a Drug Scandal on Netflix

A crime drug lab chemist tampers with evidence. Need I say more?

Don’t F**k with Cats on Netflix

A man murders a cat on video and posts it. This series shows the power of the internet and how people can be unstoppable if they work together. The last episode is INSANE.

LuLaRich on Amazon Prime

"Hey, girl hey! Want to be a girl boss??" We've all seen multi-level marketing companies (AKA pyramid schemes) but this one stands out. Who knew a documentary about a legging company would be so interesting?

Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel on Netflix

This short series covers one of the weirdest true crime stories I've ever heard.

McMillion$ on HBOMax

I CAN'T believe I've never heard of this before. I genuinely cannot decide if the plot or interviewees are more interesting. A super crazy story about the McDonald's Monopoly contest that was rigged.

The Vow on HBOMax

A little warning that parts of this show can be hard to watch. If you find cults interesting, this is the documentary for you. Involves some celebrities too!

That's the end of the list! Again, please let me know if you decide to watch any of these! And of course, send me your recommendations as well!
